| | How Settlement Works Settlement takes place when parties create a mutually binding agreement, which they have arrived at through discussion, negotiation and compromise. The process is frequently called mediation or dispute resolution. We prefer to call it settlement or concordance, a word meaning "a harmonious state of things in general an agreement of opinions." Settlement enables parties to emerge after a divorce with their dignity and their self-respect intact. Where children are involved, this proven process protects family relationships and establishes a sound foundation for continued parenting. Concordance is a forward-looking process. It does not focus on the past nor does it seek to assess blame. The goal is to enable parties to plan for and create their futures. At Settlement Works, we serve as a neutral third party working interactively with the parties to facilitate discussion and build agreement. Using our experience as family law lawyers, we introduce a legal framework for your sessions while guiding your discussions with a set of effective psychological and holistic processes tailored to you and your family's individual circumstances. As a result, when agreement arrives, it comes in a harmonious state and is, as we say, in concordance. |
